Spectacularly perched on the side of a mountain, Taormina is one of Sicily’s most popular destinations, in summer and not only. It’s rich in history, art, culture, and tradition, besides being in one of the most breathtaking spots of the whole country. Founded in the 4th century BC, Taormina enjoyed great prosperity under the Greek ruler Gelon II and later under the Romans but fell into quiet obscurity after being conquered by the Normans in 1087. Its reincarnation as a tourist destination dates to the 18th century when northern Europeans discovered it on the Grand Tour. Among its fans was DH Lawrence, who lived here between 1920 and 1923. The town lies in an elevated position of amazing, almost unique beauty, affording magnificent views combining sea and sky of a marvelous blue, miles of a curving coastline and picturesque mountain scenery, while the majestic pyramid of Mt. Etna on one side constitutes a scene of indescribable beauty. You will visit the most impressive monument of the city: the Greco-Roman Theatre. It has the finest site of any theatre in the world and one of the most striking monuments of antiquity. We continue our walking tour to the Villa Comunale: the public gardens which are planted with a huge variety of flowering plants and shrubs ranging from the most common to the exotic. After lunch in a characteristic local restaurant meet your driver who will transfer you to location. This afternoon you will enjoy a 40 minutes Helicopter Tour of Mount Etna and Taormina Bay. Enjoy views of the craters at the top of Etna, which is often smoking. During the helicopter tour, you can also admire the famous “Valle del Bove”, which extends along the eastern side of the highest active volcano in Europe (3350 meters). The tour continues in the direction of Taormina, where we can admire Isola Bella, the evocative Greek Theatre and Castelmola. On our return, we can also enjoy the “Gole dell’ Alcantara”. Each passenger is provided with headphones so that he/she can speak with the pilot (English-speaking) during the trip. After the tour transfer back to your Hotel. Overnight in Taormina.

Breakfast at the Hotel. Meet your Driver at the Hotel lobby. Transfer to Catania where you will meet your Guide for a Private Tour. You will start with a visit to a famous fish market of Catania – the biggest and the most colorful “pescheria” in Sicily and probably even in all Italy. You will see many different types of fish and seafood and feel this authentic atmosphere of Southern Italy folklore. Then you will walk to an ancient Norman monument – the Ursino Castle built in the 13th century as a royal castle of the Kingdom of Sicily. Then the tour will continue to the main street of Catania Via Etnea full of bars, restaurants and boutiques. You will visit Villa Bellini – wonderful municipal garden set up in the 19th century full of beautiful plants and trees, monuments and fountains. Here you will see an amazing botanic clock made of flowers. Then we will drop in one of the oldest and most famous “rosticceria” bars where you will taste original Sicilian street food – arancini – delicious rice balls stuffed with meat ragout and peas. Continue walking charming Via Etnea, you will arrive at the Duomo Square – the grandest square of Catania. Here you will see the symbol of Catania: the Elephant Fountain. Following Via Etnea, you will arrive at Piazza Stesicoro and see remains of ancient Roman Amphitheatre. After lunch in a characteristic local restaurant, continue to your Hotel in Catania.

We will cover, accordingly tour level, one of many existing itineraries. Helmet and bike will be put at disposal. We’ll have to worry only about our personal belongings (shoes, jackets). Enjoy a full buffet breakfast at your hotel. Transfer to the pickup point on the Etna volcano where our instructor will be waiting for us with our quads. Our instructor will bring us through several paths in the forests of the volcano. The adventure is not only worth to test our driving capacities but also to admire some of the most beautiful landscapes in Sicily. Back to the departure point and transfer to one of the cellars in the area where we will have lunch and wine tasting. Late afternoon return to your hotel in Catania. Overnight in Catania.
